My heart has been breaking for days.  Sunday morning, February 9, 2014,
Clarence H. Mathe, the only father I ever knew, passed away.

He was a wonderful man, and will be missed by many.

Thank you Dad, for your service to our country, for your dedication to family, your unconditional love, your wisdom, and your kind and gentle heart.

Life will not be the same without you.  Rest in peace.

Love,
Your daughter

It was my mother's decision to lay dad to rest the day before his service which was scheduled for Saturday, May 31st. Very few of us were in attendance as Reverand Stake said a prayer and Mom's strong little chin quivered as they lowered his ashes into the ground.

Our family could not have been more emotional the day of Dad's celebration of his life.  It will be a day that I will never forget.  We had thought just a few people would be at the cemetery and I wish, as does Mom, that we had a picture of how many were standing there as the guns fired their 21 gun salute and taps gently played.  The tears were flowing, Mom held strong in her usual survival mode.  Her gracious words unfortunately elude us all as she accepted the flag honoring his service.  None of us remember her words, but will never forget her courage.

Enjoy your heavenly peace, Dad.  It is well deserved.

I love you.
