If my story brings back a memory of a day gone by,
If my story reminds you to say, "I love you" to someone special,
If my story has you thanking a veteran for your freedom,
Then I will consider myself an accomplished writer.
When I was all of seventeen years old, I graduated from high school, left home and headed to 'cosmetology' school in Appleton, Wisconsin. While there, I met and married Robert J. Wysocky, had two sons, and , for the most part, became a stay at home Mom. I worked part time here and there, off and on, but did not work full time until years later.
Once the 'nest' was empty, Robert and I began to travel. We have been many places and God willing, will continue to do so for a while yet. On our 35th wedding anniversary, we flew over the Juneau ice fields in a very small plane and I couldn't possibly describe the high I was on during that trip. It seems like yesterday, and yet it was over eight years ago, already. I convinced him to go rafting with me in Colorado once. He said he would 'float' along with me. We floated alright. When the rafting company took our picture from above, you could see our mouths wide open in exclamation of...what? I don't know. I never did ask him what he was saying at the time. Especially since the other thing about the picture? You couldn't see the raft because of the rapids...well, I loved it and he just might admit he did, too.
We vowed back in 1970 to 'float' along together no matter what life brings. When I decided to write a book, it was no exception. He has been cheering me on since the day I chose the title. My life has been blessed with family and friends, love and laughter, and the opportunity to do whatever I want to do no matter what that might be.
I don't know what else is supposed to be on an author's page, and even if I did, I wouldn't do it that way anyway. Oh! I know. I granted wishes for many years for the Make A Wish Foundation® and I can't say enough about my experience as a volunteer. I had many emotional moments, let me tell you. I was always taught that you must give to receive. I couldn't possibly have given enough for all that I received over and over again. What an inspiration these kids are.
Talk about once again floating along with me. I came home from work one day and told Robert I was going to raise money for Make A Wish by shaving my head. He said, "Ok, what's for dinner?" His exact words, honest. In two weeks, I had surpassed my financial goal and off came the hair right down to the skin. I called it 'Hairy's Wish.' Would I do it again? In a heart beat.
There are so many ways to feel fulfilled. So get out your paper and pencil and start that bucket list. Don't wait until it's too late. Dad (Clarence) will tell you to do everything you can while you can and he means it.
Time to get my list out and see what's next. Take care and I hope you have happy reading!
